PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A fatal crash on Wednesday night on Marine Drive claimed the life of a pickup truck driver and injured the driver of a FedEx box truck, authorities reported.

The incident occurred near Northeast Interlachen Lane, close to the Big Eddy Marina, around 6 p.m. According to officials, the Ford F-150 pickup rolled onto its side. The FedEx truck driver was reportedly unconscious and transported to a hospital.

Deputy John Plock, a spokesperson for the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, indicated that the preliminary investigation suggests the pickup truck driver crossed the centerline, resulting in a head-on collision with the FedEx truck. A passenger in the pickup survived with no injuries.

“Unfortunately, people have a tendency to exceed the speed limit on Marine Drive,” Plock noted. “It’s two lanes and both lanes are pretty narrow. …There’s no center median and unfortunately we do see a number of accidents on Marine Drive.”

Marine Drive remains closed in the vicinity of the crash to allow for the ongoing police investigation.
