Germany has long been a leader in crafting exceptional sports sedans. Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz have produced some of the most celebrated cars, with models like the M5, C63, and RS4 captivating enthusiasts globally. Fortunately, due to depreciation, many of these amazing vehicles are now available for less than the price of a brand-new 2025 BMW 3 Series, which offers significantly less performance potential.

This article explores ten outstanding examples you could choose instead of an entry-level BMW.

Every sports sedan produced in Germany and available on the used market for under the cost of a new 2025 BMW 3 Series ($45,950) was considered. Rankings are from most to least expensive, with technical and pricing data from trusted sources.

    10. 2016 Porsche Panamera Turbo S

    • Used Value: $45,886
    • Engine: 4.8-liter twin-turbo V8
    • Horsepower: 570 hp
    • Torque: 553 lb-ft
    • 0-60: 3.6 seconds

Porsche entered the sports sedan market in the late 2000s with the Panamera, targeting the premium segment. For slightly less than the price of a new 3 Series, you could own a 2016 Turbo S, powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V8. With its all-wheel-drive system and launch control, this family-friendly vehicle accelerates to 60 mph in approximately 3.5 seconds. Its interior is a step above a new 3 Series, providing a comprehensive upgrade despite its age.

    9. 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E

    • Used Value: $41,100
    • Engine: 5.0-liter NA V8
    • Horsepower: 315 hp
    • Torque: 347 lb-ft
    • 0-60: 6.3 seconds

Despite being older, the 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E remains powerful. Its naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 produces 315 hp, reaching 60 mph in just over six seconds, supported by an upgraded chassis. Developed in collaboration with Porsche, the 500E rivals the BMW M5. Limited production numbers mean values will continue to increase. Hagerty’s Valuation Tool indicates that excellent-condition cars can still be purchased for around $41,000, a significant saving compared to a modern alternative.

    8. 2016 Mercedes-AMG E63 S

    • Used Value: $39,701
    • Engine: 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8
    • Horsepower: 577 hp
    • Torque: 590 lb-ft
    • 0-60: 3.5 seconds

The updated 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 in the later W212 E63 was more efficient and significantly more powerful than its naturally aspirated predecessor. With 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, this luxury car achieves 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The later E63 also came with upgraded standard features and styling. Even though these cars cost more than older models, they can still be purchased for less than the price of a new 3 Series.

    7. 2020 Audi S5

    • Used Value: $34,950-$38,692
    • Engine: 3.0-liter turbocharged V6
    • Horsepower: 349 hp
    • Torque: 369 lb-ft
    • 0-60: 4.5 seconds

The 2020 Audi S5, with its turbocharged V6, accelerates to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. It offers modern features and a Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Even top-spec trims can be found for under $40,000, according to Kelley Blue Book. Some models include optional torque vectoring and adaptive damping, improving the S5’s stability and agility.

    6. 2018 Audi S6

    • Used Value: $28,026
    • Engine: 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8
    • Horsepower: 450 hp
    • Torque: 406 lb-ft
    • 0-60: 4.4 seconds

If the RS4 is too small, the 2018 S6 might be a better choice. Based on the larger A6 sedan, it offers more cabin and cargo space. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 delivers 450 hp via the Quattro system. These are more modern and faster than the RS4, making them more practical for everyday use.

    5. 2008 Audi RS4

    • Used Value: $22,957
    • Engine: 4.2-liter NA V8
    • Horsepower: 420 hp
    • Torque: 317 lb-ft
    • 0-60: 4.8 seconds

The 2000s were a significant era for German sports sedans, with Audi’s RS4 leading the charge. Featuring a naturally aspirated V8 and Quattro AWD, it offered dynamic performance. The Quattro system enhances its performance in various weather conditions. Solid examples are available at around $23,000.

    4. 2011 BMW M3

    • Used Value: $20,584
    • Engine: 4.0-liter NA V8
    • Horsepower: 414 hp
    • Torque: 295 lb-ft
    • 0-60: 4.7 seconds

The E92 BMW M3, with its V8 engine, is one of the most iconic M3s. The naturally aspirated engine delivered 414 hp, transferred to the rear wheels. BMW’s M Division enhanced the chassis, ensuring the car’s responsiveness. These are available on the used market for approximately $20,000.

    3. 2014 Mercedes-AMG C63

    • Used Value: $20,156
    • Engine: 6.2-liter NA V8
    • Horsepower: 451 hp
    • Torque: 443 lb-ft
    • 0-60: 4.4 seconds

The W204 Mercedes-AMG C63 offered a different approach than its rivals. Its 6.2-liter V8 delivered substantial power and torque to the rear wheels, making it more of a muscle car than a sports sedan. For those seeking an exhilarating experience, the C63 stands out.

    2. 2010 BMW M5

    • Used Value: $16,005
    • Engine: 5.0-liter NA V10
    • Horsepower: 507 hp
    • Torque: 383 lb-ft
    • 0-60: 4.5 seconds

The E60 M5, with its V10 engine, remains unique in BMW’s sports sedan history. It produced 507 hp. The seven-speed SMG gearbox was not favored by all drivers, but North American models had a six-speed manual option. Despite the beastly V10, the values have dropped due to the expensive-to-maintain engine.

    1. 2011 Mercedes-AMG E63

    • Used Value: $12,742
    • Engine: 6.2-liter NA V8
    • Horsepower: 518 hp
    • Torque: 463 lb-ft
    • 0-60: 4.3 seconds

Turbocharging became prominent in the mid-2010s. Mercedes-Benz moved to a turbocharged V8, discontinuing the 6.2 M156 engine in 2011. The enhanced unit, which also powered a Mercedes MPV, provided 518 hp. Due to being less efficient than the turbocharged versions, older E63s’ prices have dropped, with models available for around $13,000.
