Driving Impressions: The 2025 Nissan Frontier

I recently spent time behind the wheel of a fully-loaded 2025 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab SL LWB pickup, priced at nearly $48,000. After experiencing its blend of rugged capability and modern features, it’s easy to see why the Frontier remains a popular choice in the midsize truck market. Here are 12 key aspects that make it a strong contender for everyday use.

    1. Rugged, Modern Design

The Frontier’s exterior design strikes a balance between classic truck styling and contemporary elements. The squared-off shape and details like the vents atop the grille, reminiscent of Nissan’s Hardbody pickups, give it a distinctive look. These are subtle styling updates that differentiate the new model.

    2. Customizable Configurations

The Frontier caters to various needs with its availability in both Crew Cab and King Cab configurations, plus the option of five-foot and six-foot beds. This flexibility lets buyers tailor the truck to their specific requirements, from daily driving to weekend projects. The long-wheelbase version of my test truck measured nearly 19 feet in length.

    3. Standard V6 Power

All Frontier models are equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 engine, producing 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. This engine offers a responsive and smooth driving experience. It stands out in the segment, where many competitors now use turbocharged four-cylinder engines.

    4. Civilized Driving Experience

The Frontier provides a comfortable ride, absorbing bumps with ease, and maintains a relatively quiet cabin. The responsive engine, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, delivers strong acceleration. The steering, while heavier than some competitors, doesn’t detract from the overall driving experience. It’s a capable daily driver, even if not as refined as some car-based trucks.

    5. User-Friendly Cabin

The Frontier’s interior is designed for practicality. Ergonomics are well-considered, with controls placed where they are easily accessible. Simple rotary dials and physical buttons make adjustments easy, even while wearing gloves. Solid material quality and a well-assembled cabin contribute to a user-friendly experience.

    6. Zero Gravity Front Seats

Front seats are engineered to reduce driver fatigue. Utilizing technology exclusive to Nissan, the seats promote a natural, neutral body position.

    7. Spacious Rear Cabin

The Crew Cab’s rear seats provide 33 inches of legroom, comparable to its rivals. Despite the upright seating, the rear bench is comfortable. Rear passengers benefit from power outlets, USB plugs, and a sliding rear window.

    8. Clever Rear Cabin Storage

The 60/40 split rear bench folds up, transforming the rear cabin into a flexible cargo area. A cargo basket on the passenger side is ideal for tools or groceries.

    9. Adjustable Bed Tie-Downs

The Frontier’s bed includes adjustable aluminum Utili-track cargo tie-downs mounted on rails, making it easier to secure awkwardly shaped items.

    10. Intuitive Infotainment System

The Frontier’s 12.3-inch infotainment screen is a significant upgrade for the midsize truck segment. Nissan’s system, while not the absolute leader, is straightforward. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard and use the full screen. An 8-inch display is standard on the base S trim.

    11. Off-Road Capability

The Frontier features a four-wheel-drive system that defaults to rear-wheel drive. A rotary dial allows the driver to switch to four-wheel drive. The two-speed transfer case has a four-low setting for challenging terrain and heavy loads. Steel skid plates are standard on four-wheel-drive models, and off-road-focused PRO-X and PRO-4X trims offer additional protection and heavy-duty shocks.

    12. Solid Towing Capacity

Towing capacity varies by trim level, the maximum being 7,150 lbs for the base Frontier S King Cab 4X2. My SL grade test truck can tow up to 6,700 lbs. It includes a class IV receiver hitch member, trailer sway control, and a tow/haul mode. The Frontier’s overall towing capability meets the needs of most consumers. You would need to look at full-size trucks for more capacity.

In conclusion, the 2025 Nissan Frontier’s combination of a powerful engine, practical features, and a user-friendly design makes it a strong contender. It is worth considering for those in need of a capable and well-equipped midsize pickup truck.
