An 18-year-old male motorcyclist from Campbellsport died Tuesday afternoon in a collision with a pickup truck in the town of Auburn, Fond du Lac County. The incident occurred at approximately 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of County Highway V and Auburn-Ashford Drive.
Preliminary investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office indicates that the motorcycle was traveling southbound on County Highway V when it struck a pickup truck proceeding eastbound from the stop sign on Auburn-Ashford Drive. The force of the collision sent the motorcycle and its operator into the southeast ditch, while the pickup truck came to rest on Auburn-Ashford Drive just east of County Highway V.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the motorcyclist pulseless and not breathing. Despite attempts at lifesaving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 32-year-old man from Campbellsport, was treated on scene by paramedics for his injuries and is cooperating with investigators. Authorities suggest that excessive speed on the part of the motorcycle may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
The collision resulted in the closure of County Highway V for approximately four hours to facilitate the investigation and cleanup. The incident is under investigation by local authorities.
