Million-Mile Marvel: 2014 Toyota Tundra Surpasses 1 Million Miles
A remarkable feat in automotive durability has been achieved by Vic Sheppard’s 2014 Toyota Tundra SR5 2WD Access Cab, which has just crossed the 1 million mile mark with its original 5.7L iForce V8 engine intact. The truck, powered by a 5.7L V8 engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, has been Vic’s workhorse as a hot-shot driver, delivering loads across the country.

Vic’s journey with Toyota’s renowned Tundra lineup began with a 2007 model that reached 1 million miles in 2016. Toyota’s appreciation for his dedication was evident when they bought back that truck for evaluation and gifted him a brand-new Tundra. Now, his 2014 Tundra has achieved the same milestone, showcasing the model’s exceptional longevity.
The million-mile mark is particularly impressive given Vic’s intense usage – averaging close to 125,000 miles annually. To put this in perspective, such high mileage is typically associated with long-haul big rig truckers. Vic’s maintenance routine has been thorough, with regular check-ups at Toyota dealerships and annual tire replacements. Despite the heavy usage, the truck has maintained an average of around 18 MPG over the long haul.
The truck has required some repairs during its journey. The transmission needed replacement at around 860,000 miles after initially showing signs of trouble by refusing to engage reverse. Vic also had to replace the fuel tank fuel filter twice and went through two windshields, which is not uncommon given Colorado’s driving conditions.
Vic plans to continue driving this stalwart Tundra indefinitely, further testing its durability. This remarkable achievement not only highlights the robustness of Toyota’s engineering but also serves as a testament to the importance of regular maintenance in extending a vehicle’s lifespan.
