The 2025 Acura MDX has undergone significant improvements, addressing some of the criticisms of its predecessor. One of the most notable changes is the replacement of the much-derided touchpad interface with a conventional 12.3-inch touchscreen, making it much easier to use. The new infotainment system also features Google Built-In functionality and maintains wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The updated MDX boasts a crisp 12.3-inch digital instrument display, complemented by an available 10.5-inch head-up display. The console area now houses a wireless charging pad, a physical volume knob, and a rocker switch for audio functions, enhancing the overall user experience.
Audio Enhancements
The MDX’s audio system has also seen significant upgrades. The top Type S trim now features a 31-speaker Bang & Olufsen high-end sound system, while lower trims come equipped with a 19-speaker system, replacing the old Panasonic ELS audio system.
Enhanced Safety Features
The Type S trim has been equipped with additional safety features, including a revised front camera and radar sensors. New active-safety technologies include front cross-traffic alert, lane change collision mitigation, and active lane change assist, providing enhanced protection for drivers and passengers.
Powertrain Options
The powertrain options for the 2025 MDX remain largely unchanged. Lower trims feature a 290-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine, while the Type S boasts a more potent 355-horsepower, twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6. All trims are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, with lower trims available in front- or all-wheel drive and upper trims having standard AWD.
Driving Experience
The Type S model, with its adjustable air suspension, 21-inch wheels, and upgraded brakes, delivers a compelling blend of comfort and handling. In Normal or Comfort mode, the ride is reasonably comfortable, but switching to Sport+ mode results in a stiffer ride with improved body control and surprising grip for a three-row SUV.
