2025 Zeekr 009 Review: A Luxurious Chinese EV People Mover
Perhaps the most intriguing EV to grace our roads this year, the Zeekr 009 is a large, luxurious, and technologically advanced electric people mover from China. Contributor Iain Curry takes a deep dive into this unique offering to determine if its blend of features, performance, and price makes it a compelling proposition.
So, What Makes the Zeekr 009 Tick?
As an opulent, electric seven-seater, the Zeekr 009 aims to be the ultimate in relaxed transport. Think of it as business-class comfort on wheels. The interior is a showcase of luxury, with reclining, massaging Nappa leather seats, a 17-inch rear entertainment screen, and a pop-out fridge. But is there a market for such an extravagant vehicle?
Zeekr, part of the Geely group (which also owns Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, and Smart), specializes in premium electric vehicles, with the 009 and the “X” small SUV being the only current Australian models. Its name combines the ‘Z’ from Generation Z and “geek”.
The 009 is a substantial vehicle: 5.2 meters long with a 3.2m wheelbase. Upon first examination, it’s impossible not to notice the spaceship-like appearance of the vehicle. Its LED daytime running lights, which appear like claws, run from the bonnet into the face, and the faux grille features silver slats and is color-coded to the body. The vehicle has a distinctive profile, with massive power-sliding doors and oversized windows. The “Starlight” 20-inch wheels elevate the stylishness of the vehicle.
A Cabin Designed for VIPs
The Zeekr 009 truly shines on the inside. Our test vehicle was the seven-seat version, although a six-seater option is available for even greater luxury. With the seven-seat configuration, the seating layout is 2+2+3. The best place to be is in the middle row. But is the driver forgotten about? Not at all!
The driver/chauffeur benefits from 12-way power-adjustable, heated, ventilated, massaging seats wrapped in soft Nappa leather and suede. The front windows are expansive and visibility is enhanced by the divided A-pillars. The driver’s display and central screen are loaded with features, including a responsive 15-inch 2.5K OLED touchscreen with wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, a 5G/wifi hotspot, and an app center.

The VIPs are in the second row, where the captain’s chairs recline. A 17-inch screen drops from the ceiling, there is a 30-speaker Yamaha surround sound, and a fridge with a digital eject button adds to the experience of a limo. The second row has a recline function and can still see the television.
Driving Experience and Performance
The Zeekr 009 pairs two electric motors to generate 450kW and 693Nm of torque. The 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in 4.5 seconds! The claimed range is 582km (WLTP) thanks to the 116kWh battery, although a 205kW DC charger will give a 10-80 percent fill-up in 30 minutes. The suspension offers a pillowy ride; the steering is light, and assists are unobtrusive.
The Verdict
The Zeekr 009 is seeking to be a luxurious, silent, comfortable limousine, and it has succeeded. While the luggage space and payload could be improved, the biggest risk is the brand itself and its newness. The Zeekr 009 sets out to be different, and it succeeds with its luxurious and tech-laden features.
