2026 Mercedes-Benz Electric Vans Hit the Road: Midsize and Campervans Coming
Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to electrify the van life. The German automaker has plans to launch a new generation of electric vans in 2026, built on the VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture) platform. This news has van enthusiasts excited, as it includes midsize luxury vans, as well as factory-built campervans.
Prototypes of these vans are currently undergoing testing on public roads, though they are heavily camouflaged. Winter testing in Sweden is the next step for the VAN.EA prototypes.
The VAN.EA architecture is modular and scalable. This means it can be adapted for various models, from smaller, midsize vans to larger commercial vehicles. The platform also supports both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations.
With this new architecture, Mercedes-Benz aims for an electric vehicle (EV) share of up to 20% by 2026 and over 50% by 2030.
Mercedes-Benz Electric Midsize Vans
While the Mercedes Metris has been available in the U.S., it hasn’t been a strong seller. Mercedes-Benz plans to re-enter the market with a fully electric midsize luxury van. The new name of this van is still unknown.
Information is limited at this stage, however, Mercedes-Benz is planning for these vans to have a range of over 310 miles.
Factory-Built Mercedes Campervans
Mercedes-Benz Vans USA plans to grow its portfolio of factory-built campervans. This means that both Sprinter-sized and Metris-sized campervans will be available directly from the factory, offering the benefit of a full warranty.
With the expansion of the electric van lineup, Mercedes-Benz seems poised to make a significant impact on the electrified van life market. It’s an exciting development for those interested in electric vehicles and road trips.
