A devastating crash between a tour van and a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 20 in eastern Idaho near Yellowstone National Park has resulted in seven fatalities. The collision occurred on May 1, 2025, at approximately 7:15 p.m. when a Mercedes passenger van carrying 14 people collided head-on with a Dodge Ram pickup truck carrying one person.
The van, operated by Ctour Holiday LLC, was traveling eastbound toward Yellowstone National Park while the pickup truck was traveling westbound. The van was carrying 12 Chinese nationals and one Italian national on an organized tour. Six passengers from the van and the pickup truck driver died in the crash.
The pickup truck driver was identified as 25-year-old Isaih Moreno from Humble, Texas. The identities of the van’s victims will be released after their families are notified.
Eyewitness Roger Merrill described arriving at the scene shortly after the crash, stating, “It had appeared they had maybe hit head-on — catastrophic damage to both” vehicles. He noted that the fire did not start immediately but engulfed both vehicles within minutes.

The crash caused U.S. Highway 20 to be closed for nearly seven hours. Eight people were transported to hospitals, with three flown by air ambulance and the others taken by ground. Two survivors remain hospitalized in stable condition at Madison Memorial, while three others were treated and released. Two patients were taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
The Idaho State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, working closely with Ctour Holiday LLC and the Consulates of China and Italy. The deceased will be transported to the Ada County Coroner’s Office for autopsy and formal identification.
The Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco has activated its emergency mechanism to provide assistance to the injured and the families of the victims, confirming that five of the deceased were Chinese nationals.
