If you’re in the market for a hybrid vehicle or eagerly awaiting new models, it’s worth noting that the field of new hybrid car releases in the short term isn’t as crowded as some might expect. Many of the new 2025 models actually went on sale in 2024. Six new hybrid vehicles are slated for release at different points in the year, and while the options might seem limited in number, the variety is truly impressive. Whether adventure-focused hybrid SUVs, luxurious SUVs that offer a premium feel, or sports cars with a wide range of price points, 2025 offers something for everyone. The information presented here is based on data sourced from manufacturer websites, offering you the most current available information.

    2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid is one of the most anticipated new hybrid cars set to be released this year.

Suburu has kept most details close to the vest regarding the Forester Hybrid, but the information released so far paints a promising picture for this adventure-ready SUV.

Unlike some competitors, Subaru is taking a unique approach to the 2025 Forester Hybrid’s performance with its 2.5-liter Boxer flat-four hybrid engine. This engine will be paired with a 1.1-kWh battery pack located under the second row of seating and two electric motors. This setup should produce 194 horsepower.

While definitive figures are still forthcoming, Subaru estimates the Forester Hybrid will achieve a combined fuel economy of 35 MPG and will have a 16.6-gallon fuel tank. This should provide the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid with a driving range of at least 500 miles.

The Forester Hybrid will also run on two electric motors, much like the RAV4 Hybrid, but the key difference is that the two electric motors are located in the transmission bell housing along with an exclusive mechanical symmetrical all-wheel drive system. Subaru claims this design enables better all-wheel drive performance.

    Performance and Fuel Economy Specifications

    • Powertrain: 2.5-Liter Four-Cylinder Hybrid Engine
    • Horsepower: 182 HP
    • Torque: N/A
    • Transmission: Mechanical Symmetrical AWD
    • Driveline: All-Wheel Drive
    • 0-60 MPH: N/A
    • Fuel Economy (Combined): Est. 35 MPG
    • Range: N/A
    • Price: $34,995

The hybrid model’s design stays consistent with the recently redesigned non-electric Forester. The only immediate indication that this is a hybrid are the various badges on the exterior. Subaru will offer the hybrid in four trims: Base Premium, Sport, Limited, and the top-of-the-line Touring. Unfortunately, the Wilderness trim is not planned for the hybrid version.

Features include LED taillights and headlights, an available panoramic sunroof, various roof rail configurations, and a single-outlet chrome exhaust. Regarding cargo space, the 2025 Subaru Forester will offer 69 cubic feet of space. The interior of the Subaru Forester Hybrid starter trims feature a vegan leather material for seating, while the Touring trim receives genuine leather.

Trim materials are soft-touch, with some boasting Alcántara. The Forester Hybrid will have the new 12.3-inch full digital gauge cluster, which is customizable. The 11.6-inch Subaru Starlink system is centrally located, which comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

    2025 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid

While a number of new hybrid vehicles are destined for release this year, Toyota is the frontrunner in the hybrid industry. The 2025 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid is another vehicle that utilizes the new “i-FORCE MAX” hybrid powertrains, the other models being the Tundra and Tacoma.

Toyota performed a long-awaited overhaul of the 4Runner, and the updates are impressive. Offered in both a non-electric and a hybrid setup, the electrified powertrain is the most desirable option. The 2025 4Runner Hybrid uses a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder i-FORCE MAX engine providing 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Toyota estimates a combined fuel economy of 23 MPG.

The 4Runner Hybrid uses either a part-time or full-time four-wheel drive system depending on the trim level. It comes standard with an 8-speed automatic (ECT-i) and enables a maximum towing capacity of 5,800 to 6,000 pounds.

    Performance and Fuel Economy Specifications

    • Range: N/A
    • Maximum Towing Capacity: 5,800-6,000 LBs
    • Price: $51,990 – $66,900

Toyota focuses on the all-terrain capabilities of its hybrid models, the 4Runner is an excellent choice if you’re looking for an adventure-focused hybrid. Available in six trims, the base model starts at $51,990 while the highest trim, the Trailhunter, starts at $66,900.

The 4Runner can be fitted with either the standard 8-inch touchscreen or the optional 14-inch display. The system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and includes upgrades such as the 14-speaker JBL audio premium sound system. Each trim has unique features that would require detailed exploration. You can opt for a model equipped with 33-inch Toyo tires with a beefed-up off-roading suspension or opt for the trim that furnishes the most comfort and premium features.
