Porsche’s Macan EV: A Winning Start

The electric version of Porsche’s Macan SUV is off to a strong start, according to CEO Oliver Blume, who described the electric version’s market introduction as “particularly gratifying.” This is a significant boost for the brand’s electric vehicle (EV) sales, especially considering the previous year’s performance. Although specific details are limited, the new all-electric Macan seems to be a hit, particularly in the United States.

In the US, the Macan Electric is currently accounting for over 40 percent of total Macan sales in 2025. “Deliveries and incoming orders in 2025 are showing us that we’re striking a chord with the electric Macan and that electromobility does indeed have an audience in North America,” Blume stated during a recent Q&A session. This momentum comes largely from 2024, where the electric version nearly outsold its gasoline counterpart globally by a factor of two to one, despite only being available for the last three months of the year. However, some important factors are at play.

Porsche discontinued the gas-powered Macan in Europe early in 2024, citing cybersecurity concerns. Furthermore, the all-electric Macan is a brand-new model, while the gas-powered model has seen few significant updates since 2023.

The Macan Electric’s robust sales in the US are a welcome development, especially given the comparatively slower sales of the Taycan, Porsche’s other fully electric model. Taycan sales dropped by 49 percent in 2024. In the previous year, Porsche sold only 20,836 Taycans, which represented just six percent of the brand’s overall sales of 310,718 units.

Despite the challenges, the Macan Electric sends a positive signal to Porsche executives. Blume expressed optimism that “we will be just as successful with the future electric Cayenne in North America. Especially in California.” He also revealed that the EV Cayenne will debut on the West Coast later this year.

In 2024, 27 percent of new Porsches sold globally were electrified, including both hybrid and fully electric vehicles. This represents an increase over the previous year. For 2025, the automaker aims for its electrified offerings to account for between 33 and 35 percent of total sales, with fully electric vehicles representing at least 20 percent.

The Macan Electric is a crucial addition to Porsche’s lineup as the company moves towards more extensive electrification. Its positive reception and high demand are boosting Porsche’s standing in the EV market. However, Porsche still has significant work ahead to meet its goals for 2025.
