2028 Alfa Romeo Giulia: What We Know So Far

    2028 Alfa Romeo Giulia

The Alfa Romeo Giulia has always been a bit of an eccentric charmer in the compact luxury sedan segment—known more for its Italian flair than for sheer practicality. But with a significant overhaul planned for the 2028 model year, the Giulia might be trading its sleek, four-door silhouette for a fastback SUV body style. While Alfa Romeo has yet to confirm the rumors, the possibility has car enthusiasts buzzing.

    What We Know

What is known is that the next-generation Giulia will likely share its underpinnings with the upcoming Alfa Romeo Stelvio and the Jeep Wagoneer S. Such a move fuels speculation that its transformation into an SUV is all but confirmed. If this shift does occur, the challenge will be to see if the new Giulia can retain the current sedan’s lively driving dynamics and signature Italian spirit within a larger crossover frame.

    New for 2028

Since its introduction in 2017, the Giulia has been Alfa Romeo’s offering in the low-slung, nimble-handling sports sedan category. The 2028 model is rumored to sport a new body, potentially larger than its predecessor. This next-generation Giulia, along with the updated Stelvio, will be built on Stellantis’s STLA Large vehicle platform, designed to support gasoline, hybrid, and all-electric vehicles across various body styles, showcasing the brand’s commitment to adapting to the evolving automotive landscape.

    Pricing

The estimated starting price for the 2028 Alfa Romeo Giulia is around $50,000. Alfa has yet to release specifics on the upcoming Giulia’s pricing, but a larger body style and the new platform could drive the base price up from the current sedan’s. A starting price of around $50,000 would not be surprising. Moreover, the potential addition of an electric Giulia variant could increase the price further.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Alfa Romeo’s shift away from a fully electric lineup by 2027 opens up interesting possibilities for the new Giulia’s engine options. Given the shared underpinnings with the Dodge Charger, the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Hurricane V-6 engine could be under the hood. In the Charger, this engine produces 420 horsepower in its standard form and 550 horsepower in a high-output version. Either output would mean a sizable power boost from the outgoing Giulia’s 280-hp turbo four-cylinder. If the Hurricane does find its way into the Giulia, it will likely be a hybrid variant that could further increase its power. Though Alfa Romeo has altered its plans for an all-electric lineup, an EV Giulia variant is still a possibility for the future.
