According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, electric vehicles (EVs) are poised to become more affordable, with prices expected to align with those of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles within the next six months. Gadkari made the prediction on Wednesday while addressing the 32nd Convergence India and 10th Smart Cities India Expo.
“Within six months, the cost of electric vehicles will be equivalent to the cost of petrol vehicles,” Gadkari stated at the expo.
The Minister of Road Transport and Highways emphasized the government’s commitment to policies that prioritize import substitution, cost-effectiveness, pollution reduction, and indigenous production. He also highlighted the importance of infrastructure development in driving India’s economic growth.
“By making good roads, we can reduce our logistics cost,” Gadkari added, stressing that infrastructure improvements are key to making India the third-largest economy in the world. Gadkari also mentioned that the construction of the 212-km Delhi-Dehradun access-controlled expressway would be completed in the next three months.
Gadkari concluded by stating the government’s dedication to smart cities and smart transport initiatives and noted the focus on promoting mass rapid transport powered by electricity. He also underscored the necessity of encouraging new technology and innovation to reduce the cost of road construction.
