Northern Ireland Gains Second Ultra-Rapid Electric Vehicle Charging Hub
Antrim, Northern Ireland – Dutch company Fastned has opened its second ultra-rapid charging station in Northern Ireland, further expanding the availability of quick-charging options for electric vehicle (EV) drivers. The new hub, located at The Junction Retail & Leisure Park in Antrim, offers drivers the ability to add up to 100 miles of range in just five minutes.
The Antrim facility, described as a “state-of-the-art charging hub,” features three 400kW ultra-rapid chargers and six charging spots, with the potential to expand to 12 in the future. Fastned emphasizes that the new hub is “powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.” This marks a £3 million investment by Fastned in Northern Ireland.
Tom Hurst, UK and Ireland country director at Fastned, expressed his delight at the opening, stating, “We’re delighted to open our second ultra-rapid charging station in Northern Ireland.” He also highlighted the company’s commitment to expanding its network to meet the growing demand for EV charging solutions.
The first Fastned ultra-rapid charging facility in Northern Ireland was launched in Banbridge last month.
“With the Antrim hub, we are continuing to provide drivers with reliable, fast and renewable charging options, helping to build confidence in the EV transition,” Hurst added. “Northern Ireland has huge potential for EV growth and we’re committed to expanding further to meet the rising demand for clean, convenient transport.”
Chris Flynn, centre director at The Junction, welcomed the new addition, saying, “We are delighted to welcome Fastned to The Junction… The ultra-rapid EV station will be a great addition to the scheme.”
According to Fastned, ultra-rapid charging currently accounts for a small percentage of the North’s public charging facilities, serving a significant number of EV drivers. Fastned’s network extends across the UK, with numerous charging hubs. The company has received industry recognition for its ultra-rapid charging network.
