First Look: Jaguar’s Upcoming Electric Vehicle Takes Shape in Cold Weather Testing

New Jaguar EV Spotted in Winter Testing

The first of Jaguar’s all-new electric vehicles has been spotted undergoing cold weather testing in Europe, giving us a clearer glimpse of its design. These new images seemingly confirm a significant departure from the brand’s traditionally elegant, curvaceous styling, such as that seen on the F-Type. The new EV appears to embrace a more angular, almost monolithic aesthetic.

Jaguar, a premium car manufacturer based in the UK, is owned by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). From its beginnings in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company, the company later transitioned to producing passenger car bodies under the SS Cars name from 1935. SS Cars was renamed Jaguar Cars in 1945. The brand boasts a rich heritage of iconic vehicles, including the XK, E-Type, and XJ220, alongside modern hits like the F-Type and F-Pace. Jaguar has committed to becoming an all-electric automaker starting in 2025, halting production of combustion engine cars early in 2024. This transition is coupled with the launch of a new brand identity.

Reportedly, even some Jaguar designers are not fans of the design direction. Regardless of opinion, the unconventional aesthetic is certainly impactful.

    A Striking Rear Panel

Like the Type 00 concept revealed late last year, this production vehicle prototype has a solid rear panel where a conventional window would be. Unlike the Polestar 4’s similar design, the panel on the Jaguar will be movable, with the potential to allow more light into the cabin.

It could be this moving panel will be the only barrier from the elements, creating a luxurious open-air experience when stowed. This design choice may take inspiration from luxury vehicles such as the Maybach 57 and 62, which had a sliding roof feature.

    Appearance Predictions

Judging a car’s appearance while it’s camouflaged can be difficult, but unofficial renderings of the concept suggest it may be a challenge to create an exciting design. The new electric Jaguar, which is expected to carry a six-figure starting price, might not prioritize beauty, however, the model will likely be judged by those metrics.

Hopefully, the final design will be revealed before the end of this year, or in early 2026, and exceed expectations.
