Next-Generation MG4 EV Confirmed: New Design and Larger Dimensions Revealed

MG has confirmed the design and name of the next-generation MG4 EV, shortly after details of the vehicle were leaked via government documents. This model is anticipated to be the brand’s first global offering for 2025.

Earlier reports suggested that the vehicle might be registered with different names in some markets, including MG3 EV and E5, based on filings with Chinese authorities. However, it is now unlikely this will affect the car’s name in markets such as Australia.

Details from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveal that the new MG4 is larger than the current model. It’s also too large to be considered a replacement for the MG3 in Australia. The new model’s dimensions are 4395mm in length, 1842mm in width, and 1551mm in height. The wheelbase is 2750mm, 50mm longer than the current MG4. In comparison, the current MG4 is 4287mm in length, and the MG3 is 4055mm long.

The extended wheelbase suggests significant platform changes beyond a simple facelift. According to MIIT, at least one variant of the new MG4 will have a 120kW electric motor and a kerb weight of 1485kg.

While sales of the MG4 have been relatively modest in China, it has been a top performer in the small car segment in Australia. In 2024, the MG4 achieved 6,934 sales in the Australian market.
