A high-end car dealership in the Denver metropolitan area is embroiled in a legal dispute after being accused of negligence in the theft of a Ferrari. Bentley Denver, located in Lone Tree, sells new and used Bentleys alongside other luxury vehicles, including Ferraris. On November 4, 2024, the dealership sold a gray 2023 Ferrari Roma to Twin Cities Performance, a Minnesota-based dealership, for $218,000. The Minnesota dealership arranged for Angels Moving to transport the vehicle across the country. However, according to a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court of Colorado, both Angels Moving and Bentley Denver allegedly failed to properly verify the authenticity of the carrier that arrived to collect the Ferrari on November 6, 2024. The carrier, which was impersonating a legitimate transport company found through an online platform, was able to deceive Bentley Denver’s general manager, Bill Mills, into releasing the vehicle without presenting a bill of lading or verified driver information. This incident occurred despite Bentley Denver having experienced a similar security breach recently. On November 11, 2024, Angels Moving informed Twin Cities Performance that the Ferrari had been stolen, although no police report had been filed at that time. Twin Cities Performance subsequently filed a report with the Lone Tree police. The lawsuit alleges that Bentley Denver ignored a request not to cash the check for the Ferrari sent by Twin Cities Performance and proceeded to do so. The Minnesota dealership is now seeking triple damages, attorneys’ fees, and pre- and post-judgment interest at the maximum rate permitted by law.
Key Allegations
- Failure to verify the carrier’s authenticity
- Release of the Ferrari without proper documentation
- Ignoring a request not to cash the payment check
Legal Consequences
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court of Colorado, could result in significant financial penalties for Bentley Denver if the allegations are proven true. The case highlights the importance of proper vetting procedures for transport companies in the luxury car industry.
