Historic First: Chevy Blazer EV to Pace Daytona 500
This Sunday, the Chevy Blazer EV SS will make history by leading the field at the 67th running of the Daytona 500, marking the first time an electric vehicle has been chosen to pace the iconic race. This milestone represents Chevrolet’s 16th time providing the pace car for the prestigious event.
The Blazer EV SS, the top-spec model, boasts an impressive 615 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in a claimed 3.4 seconds when in Chevrolet’s “Wide Open Watts” mode. This performance capability makes it an ideal choice for pacing the NASCAR Cup field.

The selection of an electric vehicle as the pace car comes as Chevrolet continues to innovate within the automotive and racing sectors. In conjunction with this announcement, Chevy revealed plans to debut a new NASCAR prototype called the Blazer EV.R, following in the footsteps of Ford’s recent introduction of the Mustang Mach-E NASCAR prototype.
The 2025 NASCAR Cup season kicks off with this weekend’s Daytona 500. Fans can catch the action on Fox Sports, with onboard footage available on Max. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 2:30 pm ET.
As the racing world prepares for the new season, Chevrolet’s decision to lead with electric technology demonstrates the brand’s commitment to exploring new technologies in motorsports.
