Mercedes-Benz has launched its new ‘Vision V’ series, a range of all-electric luxury limousine vans featuring reclining lounge chairs, large entertainment screens, and the ability to transform into mobile entertainment spaces. Some models in this series will be produced in China. The vans are designed to create a ‘private lounge on wheels,’ according to CEO Ola Kallenius, who unveiled the series at an event preceding the Shanghai auto show. Kallenius emphasized the significant potential for this new segment both in China and globally, noting that the concept and production models will be very similar. The introduction comes as Mercedes-Benz faces challenges in the Chinese market, where its car sales dropped 7% last year and 10% in the first quarter, while van sales fell 20% last year and plummeted 39% in the first quarter. The company is responding to intense competition from local rivals amid a slowing economy that is affecting consumer confidence.
