Audi’s Chinese Sub-brand AUDI Unveils E5 Sportback Electric Car
Audi’s Chinese sub-brand, AUDI, has unveiled its first model, the E5 Sportback electric vehicle (EV), as part of its strategy to win back Chinese consumers. The E5 Sportback shares its underpinnings with the MG IM6, leveraging the Advanced Digitized Platform.
Key Features of the AUDI E5 Sportback
The E5 Sportback measures 4881mm in length, 1995mm in width, and 1478mm in height, positioning it as a competitor to the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE. It will be available in four output versions: 220kW, 300kW, 425kW, and a flagship 579kW model that can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds. All versions will feature a 100kWh battery pack, with a claimed range of up to 770km.
The E5 Sportback boasts an 800-volt architecture, allowing for 370km of range to be added in just 10 minutes with the appropriate charger. It also features adaptive air suspension for enhanced comfort.
Design and Technology
The E5 Sportback’s design diverges from traditional Audi models, featuring rounded wheel arches and a new light-up grille. The interior is equipped with high-end features such as ambient lighting, a fragrance diffuser, and headrest speakers. A standout feature is the 27-inch curved panoramic display that combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system, supported by AI and accepting both voice and touch inputs.
Market Strategy
The AUDI E5 Sportback is the first of three planned models, with subsequent launches scheduled for 2026 and 2027. These models are expected to be exclusive to the Chinese market, reflecting Audi’s efforts to adapt to local consumer preferences and compete with emerging domestic brands.
