Genesis GV60 Magma: A New Era for Luxury Performance
Genesis has been delivering luxury vehicles since 2015, with the GV60 being a prime example of their electric crossover prowess. However, the upcoming GV60 Magma represents a significant shift for the brand, marking its foray into high-adrenaline performance models. Drawing inspiration from the likes of BMW M and Mercedes AMG, the GV60 Magma will transform the standard GV60 EV crossover into a potent machine with a more powerful electric powertrain, aggressive styling, and a sportier interior.
The Genesis Magma Performance Sub-Brand
The GV60 Magma is the first model under Genesis’s new Magma performance sub-brand, which aims to inject a dose of excitement into the brand’s lineup. According to Genesis, every vehicle in their lineup will eventually have a Magma variant, each offering a unique performance-to-luxury ratio. The Magma brand will also venture into motorsport, with Genesis Magma Racing set to debut in the WEC and IMSA in 2026 and 2027, respectively, with the goal of winning prestigious 24-hour races at Le Mans and Daytona.
Technical Specifications and Platform
The GV60 Magma will be built on the E-GMP platform, which has already proven itself with high-powered EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT. It’s likely that the GV60 Magma will adopt the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive electric powertrain from these models, potentially delivering 601 horsepower normally and 641 horsepower with the boost feature. This would significantly enhance its performance compared to the standard GV60, potentially reducing its 0-60 mph time to around 3.0 seconds.
Competition and Pricing
The GV60 Magma will enter a competitive segment, going head-to-head with models like the Porsche Macan EV and Audi SQ6 e-tron. With an expected starting price of around $75,000, it faces a challenging task in justifying its cost against more established competitors. Additionally, it will need to differentiate itself from its platform-mates, the Ioniq 5 N and EV6 GT, to make the extra cost worthwhile.
Estimated Arrival
Production of the GV60 Magma is expected to commence in 2025, with sales in South Korea starting in the third quarter of 2025 and European models following by the end of the year. The U.S. market is likely to receive the Magma in the first half of 2026.
