Ford has issued a second recall affecting 152 Transit Connect vans from the 2019-2020 model years due to concerns that some vehicles may not have received proper repairs during an earlier recall. The initial recall in 2020 impacted approximately 2,900 Transit Connect compact vans due to an incorrectly calibrated failsafe cooling system, which was addressed through a software update for most vehicles. However, Ford discovered that the system used by dealers to upload software patches could sometimes falsely report a successful installation, resulting in vehicles being returned to owners without the proper fix. Fortunately, Ford can identify which vehicles received a failed software update and has been re-examining dozens of older recalls over the past month to rectify such issues. Dealers now have a new system for installing updates that allows them to verify the success of the installation before returning a vehicle to its owner. The repair involves re-installing the same software update from the previous recall, ensuring its successful upload this time. As with all recall repairs, this fix will be performed free of charge, as mandated by law. Ford is working to contact affected owners, though it’s not always possible to reach every individual. Vehicle owners can check if their car requires any critical safety repairs by visiting the recall center.
