A Piece of Hollywood History: 1993 Oldsmobile Silhouette for Sale
This 1993 Oldsmobile Silhouette, known for its futuristic design and featured role in the 1995 film Get Shorty, is up for auction on Bring a Trailer. With only 69,000 miles and a pristine California history, this ‘Dustbuster’ van is a rare find for collectors.

The Oldsmobile Silhouette was part of GM’s ambitious attempt to challenge Chrysler’s dominance in the minivan market. Alongside its siblings, the Chevrolet Lumina APV and Pontiac Trans Sport, it boasted innovative styling cues like gullwing doors in its concept form. While the production model toned down some of these features, it still managed to capture attention on the big screen.
In Get Shorty, John Travolta’s character Chili Palmer cruises around in this very minivan, making it an unexpected star of the film. The movie, a comedy about a mafioso navigating Hollywood, features the Silhouette prominently, often keeping it ‘either in view or just offscreen.’
This particular Silhouette has been meticulously maintained, having remained within the same family since new. Recent maintenance includes the replacement of the water pump and serpentine belt, and it passed California emissions testing last year. Under the hood lies a 3.8-liter V-6 engine, producing 170 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque.

The interior is equally impressive, featuring leather seats, air conditioning, cruise control, and various power features. Sixteen-inch alloy wheels add a touch of luxury to this already well-equipped minivan.
The auction for this rare find concludes on February 3, making it a timely opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of automotive and movie history.
