Geely Galaxy Cruiser Unveiled
Geely has revealed its Galaxy Cruiser SUV at the Shanghai motor show, a Toyota Prado-rivalling PHEV with unique features. The SUV boasts an “AI digital chassis” and floating capabilities, claiming to be the world’s first SUV capable of switching between pure electric, hybrid, and range extender modes in real time.
The Galaxy Cruiser features an AI-driven all-wheel-drive system with extreme maneuverability, including crab walking and autonomous drifting. It can float on water for up to two hours at speeds over 8.5km/h.
Next-Gen Lexus ES Coming to Australia
Lexus has revealed the eighth-generation ES luxury sedan, set to launch in Australia in 2026 as a fully electric or conventional petrol-electric hybrid. The new ES is 5.14 meters long and features a coupe-like silhouette with a four-door body style.
The interior design is more minimalist, with a 14.0-inch central media touchscreen and a cowled digital instrumentation cluster. Hybrid powertrain options include a 2.0L petrol hybrid and 2.5L four-cylinder hybrids, while electric power versions include a 165kW front-driver and a 252kW all-wheel-driven model.
MG Cyberster RWD Launched in Australia
MG Motor has launched a cheaper, rear-wheel-drive Cyberster in Australia, priced at $99,900. The new variant features a reduced kerb weight and simpler drivetrain, with the same 77kWh battery as the AWD version, offering an increased range to 552km.
Slate Auto’s Modular Ute Concept
US-based Slate Auto has revealed a two-door ute concept with a sub-$20,000 base price. The modular design allows configuration into an SUV, open-top convertible, or wagon, with extensive customization options for interior and exterior.
Jaecoo J7 Summit SHS Plug-in Hybrid Review
Chasing Cars Road Test Editor John Law reviewed the 2025 Jaecoo J7 PHEV, praising its plush interior and premium-feel materials. However, he noted disappointing handling characteristics, average ride quality, and vague steering.
The Jaecoo J7 PHEV offers great value at $47,990 driveaway but may be overshadowed by more costly rivals due to its stiff ride quality and underpowered drivetrain.
