Ford Reissues Recall for 2022-2023 Transit Vans Due to Faulty Rearview Cameras

Ford has reissued a recall for 4,625 Transit vans from the 2022 and 2023 model years due to issues with their rearview cameras. The recall is a follow-up to a previous recall in 2023 that affected nearly 170,000 vehicles, including the Transit vans, because of problems that could prevent the rearview cameras from displaying an image.

    Previous Recall Attempts

In the initial recall, Ford attempted to repair the issue by either replacing the camera, making physical changes to the wiring, or updating the software. However, the company discovered that the tool used for the software update could sometimes fail to properly install the update, despite reporting a successful installation.

    Consequences of Failed Software Update

As a result, thousands of vehicles were returned to their owners over a period of at least three years, with dealers believing the problems had been resolved when they actually hadn’t. Ford has since developed a new process to verify the successful installation of the software update and can now identify which specific vehicles had upload failures.

    New Repair Process

Dealers will now perform a second repair on the affected Transit vans, which involves reinstalling the software update using the new verification process. This repair will be done free of charge, as is standard with recall repairs.

    Checking for Outstanding Recalls

It’s not uncommon for automakers to recall vehicles multiple times during their lifespan. While manufacturers attempt to contact all owners, they don’t always succeed. To check if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls, you can use the easy VIN tool available at our recall center.
