Introduction
The Genesis Electrified G80 combines EV technology with the luxury brand’s premium features, but as a converted ICE car, it faces some compromises.
The Electrified G80 uses the same Genesis-specific architecture as the petrol and diesel G80, which was designed with electrification in mind but is compromised by the 87kWh and 546kg battery pack. Despite efforts to keep weight down, the car tips the scales at 2349kg, although it’s still comparable to the dual-motor Porsche Taycan.
Design & Styling
Visually, the Electrified G80 retains much of the regular G80’s design, with a solid ‘Crest’ grille and unique 19in wheels. The front valance has been modified with filled-in air intakes becoming air curtains.
Interior
The interior maintains Genesis’s high perceived quality with real wood, sumptuous leather, and soft-touch materials. The infotainment system combines a large touchscreen with a rotary selection dial and physical controls, making it one of the most intuitive systems available.
Performance
The Electrified G80 features a dual-motor setup producing 365bhp. It can accelerate from 0-60mph in 4.4sec, although the calibration could be finer. The regenerative braking system allows for adjustable regen levels, and the brake feel is reassuring.
Ride & Handling
Despite its size and weight, the Electrified G80 handles competently, thanks to its adaptive suspension and Ride Preview system. However, it doesn’t match the Porsche Taycan’s dynamics, and the ride can feel unsettled.
Verdict
The Genesis Electrified G80 is a compromised vehicle due to its conversion from an ICE car. While it excels in interior luxury and has strong performance, it falls short in ride refinement and handling compared to competitors like the Porsche Taycan. A potential single-motor version could make it a more compelling value option in the luxury EV segment.
