Car Enthusiast Shares Journey from Military to Luxury Cars
SAN ANTONIO — Dennis Halmai has transformed his lifelong passion for fast cars into an impressive collection of luxury vehicles. The former military member, who was stationed at Lackland, shared his inspiring journey from humble beginnings to owning high-end cars at a recent car show.
Halmai’s story began in Europe, where he grew up on the Autobahn. “I was stationed at Lackland. Got out around 9/11, but I’ve always been a car guy, growing up with bikes and cars,” Halmai said. “I kind of grew up on the Autobahn and all that stuff.” He recalled the surreal experience of driving 200 miles per hour in a Volkswagen Bug on the Autobahn.
His journey into car ownership started with an old IROC Z Camaro, which he described as his first true car purchase. Over time, his collection expanded to include a Ford Pro GT, a Mitsubishi 3000 GT, and eventually multiple Porsches and Ferraris. “Working hard… You know, obviously the ambition, when you know you want something, you work hard to get there,” he emphasized. “Things don’t come fast. You got to work for it.”
The car enthusiast stressed the importance of setting and achieving goals, both individually and within the supportive community of car enthusiasts he has found.
