Car Enthusiast Shares Journey from Military to Luxury Cars
SAN ANTONIO — Dennis Halmai has turned a lifelong passion for fast cars into a collection of luxury vehicles. The former military member, stationed at Lackland, shared his journey from modest beginnings to owning high-end cars at a recent car show.
“I was stationed at Lackland. Got out around ‘911, but I’ve always been a car guy, growing up with bikes and cars, and, you know, I love fast cars,” Halmai said. “I grew up in Europe. I kind of grew up on the Autobahn and all that stuff.”
Reflecting on his experiences, he added, “When you’re doing 200 miles an hour in a Volkswagen Bug, you know, on the Autobahn, it’s something, like surreal.”
His journey into car ownership began with an old IROC Z Camaro, which he described as his first true car purchase. From there, his collection expanded to include a Ford Pro GT, a Mitsubishi 3000 GT, and eventually multiple Porsches and Ferraris.
“Working hard. You know, obviously the ambition, when you know you want something, you work hard to get there,” he said. “Things don’t come fast. You got to work for it.”
The car enthusiast emphasized the importance of setting and achieving goals, both individually and within the supportive community of car lovers he has found.
