    Nissan Plans Rogue-based Infiniti Crossover

The luxury SUV market is dominated by various well-known brands offering a wide range of models. Lexus boasts seven different SUVs, BMW has nine, and Mercedes features 13 different models, including some under its ultra-luxe Maybach label. However, Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury division, has seen a reduction in its lineup in recent years.

After discontinuing the Q50 sports sedan in August 2024, Infiniti became an SUV-only brand with a lineup consisting of the QX50, QX55, QX60, and QX80. However, the brand is set to lose the QX50 and QX55 models by the end of the year. According to a report by Automotive News, Nissan is considering introducing a new compact crossover for Infiniti, potentially called the i33C, which could be based on the next-generation Nissan Rogue platform.

The new Infiniti model is expected to feature advanced technology and a more premium interior compared to its Nissan counterpart. It may be powered by Nissan’s e-Power series hybrid technology or a plug-in hybrid powertrain. A Nissan spokesperson confirmed that the company is “giving strong consideration to a new, electrified compact SUV for Infiniti” as part of its efforts to expand the brand’s lineup and improve competitiveness.

This development comes at a critical time for Infiniti, which will be left with only two models – the QX60 and QX80 – after the discontinuation of the QX50 and QX55. The brand’s next model, the QX65, a two-row midsize crossover, is not expected until Q2 2026.

Infiniti dealers are pressing for new models to revitalize the brand. The chairman of Infiniti’s National Dealer Advisory Board stated that Nissan needs to “use any means necessary” to expand Infiniti’s lineup and attract more customers to showrooms, even if it means sharing platforms with Nissan.

Historically, Infiniti has used Nissan’s technology to create its own brand cars. For example, the QX4 SUV was essentially a rebadged Nissan Pathfinder. The idea of creating a smaller Infiniti SUV based on the Nissan Rogue is not new, and could potentially attract buyers to the brand if priced correctly.

The potential new Infiniti crossover is expected to share a production line with the Nissan Rogue at Nissan’s Smyrna, Tennessee plant, where Rogue production is set to increase significantly.

If plans go through, the new Infiniti model could launch in 2027, marking a significant step in the brand’s efforts to revitalize its lineup and competitiveness in the luxury SUV market.
