Ferrari’s Journey into Electric
Ferrari, known for its powerful V12s, V8s, and now V6s, is embracing the electric era. The Italian luxury sports car manufacturer is set to unveil its first fully electric vehicle (EV) in October 2026, with deliveries commencing shortly after.
The journey to this electric future began with the revelation that the drivetrain, or “technological heart,” of Ferrari’s first EV will be showcased on October 9, 2025. This marks the first step in a three-stage unveiling process, culminating in the car’s world premiere in the spring of 2026.
Continuing Tradition While Innovating
Despite venturing into electric vehicles, Ferrari reassures its loyal customer base that it will continue to produce internal combustion engines as long as permitted. The company’s commitment to innovation is evident in its new e-building production facility in Maranello, which was opened in June 2024. This state-of-the-art factory will handle the production of internal combustion-engined cars, hybrids, and Ferrari’s first electric model.
Ferrari’s CEO, Benedetto Vigna, expressed excitement about the future, stating, “We continue to enrich our product offering—in line with our plans—with six new models this year, which include the newly launched 296 Speciale, 296 Speciale A, and the much-anticipated Ferrari Elettrica through a unique and innovative unveiling.”
Balancing Heritage and Innovation
The introduction of Ferrari’s first EV doesn’t signal the end of its iconic combustion engines. Enrico Galliera, chief marketing and commercial officer, noted that Ferrari has been developing skills related to EV components for over a decade. The company’s approach to electric vehicles is about creating something “completely different” while maintaining the signature driving excitement that Ferrari is known for.
As Ferrari ventures into the electric era, enthusiasts and critics alike are left wondering what this means for the brand’s heritage. While some may view this as a departure from tradition, it’s clear that Ferrari is committed to evolving while staying true to its core values.
The wait for Ferrari’s first electric car continues, with prototypes already spotted in Maranello. Whether this marks a new era for Ferrari or a continuation of its legacy remains to be seen. One thing is certain: Ferrari is poised to make its mark in the electric vehicle market.
