A devastating pickup truck accident occurred on the Pathum–Lat Lum Kaeo Road in Pathum Thani early Wednesday, resulting in the death of a 4-year-old boy and injuries to six others. The crash happened at around 1 a.m. when the driver, 26-year-old Phat Sinsunthorn, lost control of the vehicle while navigating a dark, curved section of the road opposite the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organisation offices.
The pickup truck, which was carrying seven people, was reportedly rushing a 2-year-old child who had fallen from a building to Pathum Thani Hospital. The vehicle overturned, throwing both children out of the truck. The 4-year-old boy died at the scene, approximately 50 meters from the wreckage, while the 2-year-old toddler was revived with CPR and taken to the hospital along with the five injured adults.
The driver claimed he was transporting the injured toddler and his family from Sam Khok to the hospital when the accident occurred. Local residents have expressed concern about the road conditions in the area, citing poor lighting as a contributing factor to frequent accidents. Despite previous complaints to authorities, no improvements have been made, prompting calls for urgent action to prevent further tragedies.
Police from the Mueang Pathum Thani station, along with forensic officers from the Ministry of Justice, are investigating the crash. They are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras and will interview the driver and other passengers to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The incident has highlighted the need for improved road safety measures in the area. Residents are demanding that authorities take immediate action to address the long-standing issue of poor lighting and hazardous road conditions.
