Fatal Crash on Colo. 14 West of Ault Claims One Life
A tragic head-on collision occurred late Saturday night on Colo. 14 west of Ault, resulting in one fatality and one person suffering life-threatening injuries. The incident happened at 11:14 p.m. when Colorado State Patrol troopers responded to a crash just west of Weld County Road 31.
The Colorado State Patrol reported that a Chevy Silverado, traveling west on Colo. 14, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with an eastbound semi-truck. The Silverado was being driven by a 21-year-old woman from LaSalle, who was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries. Her passenger, a 23-year-old man from Milliken, was transported to a hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead.
Troopers noted that neither the driver nor the passenger of the Silverado were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. In contrast, the 40-year-old driver of the semi-truck, from Fountain, and his 32-year-old passenger were both wearing their seat belts and escaped injury.
The crash led to the closure of Colo. 14 between Weld County Roads 31 and 29 from just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday until at least 9:33 a.m. Sunday, when troopers left to respond to another incident. As of Tuesday afternoon, no public update had been issued regarding the condition of the critically injured driver.
The incident is a stark reminder of the importance of wearing seat belts and the potentially devastating consequences of head-on collisions.
