Charlotte Man Sentenced to 3.5 Years in Prison for Luxury Car Theft Ring

A Charlotte, North Carolina man has been sentenced to 42 months in federal prison for his role in a luxury vehicle theft ring. Terrick D. Lumpkin, 39, pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges in October and received the sentence on Thursday.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Western North Carolina, Lumpkin was involved in a scheme to steal high-end vehicles from multiple states including North Carolina, Illinois, and New York between November 2023 and January 2024. The stolen vehicles, valued at over $1 million, included brands such as Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, GMC, and Jeep.

Court documents revealed that several stolen vehicles found in Lumpkin’s possession were taken from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The group altered or removed Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) after theft. Lumpkin stored some stolen vehicles at his apartment complex’s parking garage and possessed tools related to the conspiracy, including a key fob programmer and blank key fobs.

In addition to his prison sentence, Lumpkin will serve two years under court supervision. He is currently free but will report to a federal prison facility upon designation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William Bozin. This sentencing is part of a larger crackdown on luxury vehicle theft, with multiple individuals indicted in August and November 2023 for similar crimes across the United States and South Carolina.
