Giamaro Automobili Enters Hypercar Market with Katla and Albor
Giamaro Automobili has burst onto the supercar scene with its debut hypercar, the Katla, and a rally-inspired variant called the Albor. Both models feature a quad-turbocharged 7.0-liter V12 engine developed entirely in-house.
Katla Hypercar Specifications
The Katla boasts impressive performance figures, with outputs ranging from 1,647 hp (1,228 kW / 1,670 PS) and 1,147 lb-ft (1,556 Nm) of torque, up to 2,127 hp (1,586 kW / 2,157 PS) and 1,481 lb-ft (2,008 Nm) in its range-topping variant. This makes it more powerful than the Bugatti Tourbillon. The engine is connected to a seven-speed transmission that sends power to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential, although an 11-speed dual-clutch gearbox is reportedly in development.
The Katla’s styling is reminiscent of other supercars, featuring a ventilated hood, ‘floating’ LED daytime running lights, gullwing doors, and a sleek body designed to channel air to the mid-mounted engine. It rides on 20- and 21-inch wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires and is equipped with a beefy braking system featuring 10- and 4-piston calipers with 16.5-inch (420 mm) discs at all four corners. An active rear wing maximizes downforce and can act as an air brake.
Katla Dimensions and Construction
Measuring 188.6 inches (4,791 mm) in length with a wheelbase of 108.3 inches (2,750 mm), the Katla is slightly larger than a Corvette. It features a carbon fiber monocoque weighing 375 lbs (170 kg), contributing to a total vehicle weight of 3,197 lbs (1,450 kg). The Katla has a 42:58 weight distribution and advanced suspension with electronically adjustable dampers and automatic ride height adjustment for balancing aerodynamic efficiency and everyday usability.
Albor Variant
In addition to the Katla, Giamaro unveiled the Albor, a rugged hypercar inspired by the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato. The Albor features increased ride height, chunky carbon fiber fender flares, unique bodywork, and lighting units, as well as a prominent exhaust system. While specific details are limited, Giamaro confirmed that the Albor shares the same monocoque and engine as the Katla. The name ‘Albor’ is derived from the Albor Tholus volcano on Mars.
Both the Katla and Albor represent Giamaro Automobili’s ambitious entry into the hypercar market, showcasing their capability in designing and engineering high-performance vehicles with unique characteristics.
