The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiates car recalls after receiving consumer complaints. Recently, Toyota announced a recall of over 443,000 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid trucks due to a fault in their reverse lights. The issue affects vehicles from the 2022-2025 model years.
Recall Details
According to Toyota’s report to the NHTSA, the multi-layer vent patch in the reverse light assemblies may separate over time due to thermal cycling. This separation compromises the adhesive, allowing moisture to enter and potentially causing corrosion of the internal circuit board, connector, or wire harness. As a result, the reverse lights may fail to illuminate.

The failure of reverse lights could limit the driver’s rear visibility during low ambient light conditions and leave others on the road without a clear signal that the trucks are backing up. Toyota has specified that the recall only affects Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles equipped with reverse lamp assemblies of a specific design using a particular adhesive for the vent patch.
Resolution
Toyota will notify affected Tundra and Tundra Hybrid owners by mid-July. Dealers will replace both reverse lamp assemblies with improved ones free of charge. Additionally, assembly wiring harnesses will be repaired for any vehicles identified with corrosion that has extended into the wire harness connector, also at no cost to the owners. Vehicle owners who have already paid to fix the reverse lights on the recalled vehicles should seek reimbursement pursuant to Toyota’s General Reimbursement Plan.
The recall notification date for owners of the potentially affected trucks is scheduled between June 30 and July 14.
