The Electric SUV Revolution in 2025

The year 2025 marks a significant shift towards electric vehicles in the automobile sector, as evident from the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Several manufacturers unveiled electric vehicles, particularly SUVs, that are expected to flood the market this year. For those planning to purchase an electric SUV, here are four of the most awaited models promising a driving range of over 500 km on a single charge.

    1. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

Maruti Suzuki unveiled its first all-electric vehicle, the e Vitara, at the expo. The company has confirmed that the e Vitara will be launched in September 2025. The e Vitara will be available in two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The entry-level model produces 142 bhp and 189 Nm of torque with a single motor, while the 61 kWh version churns out 172 bhp with identical torque. The top variant will feature twin motors and AllGrip all-wheel drive, producing around 181 bhp and 300 Nm. However, the current range estimates fall short of the 500 km mark, with the base version offering approximately 345 km, the 61 kWh entry version claiming up to 426 km, and the AWD model around 396 km.

    2. Tata Harrier EV

The Harrier EV was showcased at the expo and is set to launch on June 3, 2025. Although based on the modified chassis of its internal combustion version, the Acti.ev Gen 2 architecture, the Harrier EV will feature all-wheel drive, a first for the current Safari generation. Tata Motors has confirmed that the Harrier EV will offer a range of over 500 km and a torque output of 500 Nm. While battery specifications are yet to be revealed, it is expected to be powered by a larger battery than the 55 kWh available in the Curvv EV.

    3. Tata Sierra EV

Tata Motors is reviving the Sierra nameplate with an electric version, expected to launch this financial year. The Sierra EV, based on the Acti.ev Gen 2 architecture, is anticipated to offer a driving range of over 500 km. Unlike the Harrier EV, the Sierra EV is expected to be a front-wheel drive and will be available in two seating layouts: 4 and 5-seater.

    4. Mahindra XEV 7e

The XEV 7e is based on Mahindra’s born-electric INGLO skateboard platform and is expected to be offered in two battery packs: 59 kWh and 79 kWh. Mahindra has confirmed plans to introduce the 79 kWh battery option in mid-level variants. While specific range figures are not available, the XEV 7e is positioned as a competitive offering in the electric SUV segment.
