Fatal Crash on US-131 Near Grand Rapids Claims One Life, Injures Three
A devastating crash on northbound US-131 at Leonard on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, resulted in one fatality and three serious injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 5:53 a.m. when an unoccupied pickup truck was struck by a van, which was subsequently hit by a semi-truck.

The van’s driver, a 35-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Two other occupants of the van were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, including a passenger who was also ejected. The owner of the pickup truck and the semi-truck driver were not injured in the collision.
The crash caused a temporary closure of part of US-131, with only one lane remaining open until around 11 a.m. The road has since been fully reopened. The Michigan State Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are reminding motorists of the importance of wearing seatbelts while in a vehicle.
