A 70-year-old woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a pickup truck while riding her bicycle through an intersection in northeastern Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Burney Road and First Coast Highway. The driver of the pickup truck, a 68-year-old man, had come to a stop at the stop sign on Burney Road and was waiting for traffic to clear before proceeding.
Meanwhile, the woman on the bicycle had also stopped at the intersection. As the truck driver slowly entered the intersection, the woman began crossing the crosswalk, resulting in a collision between the front of the truck and the cyclist. FHP reported that the woman was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The woman was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The FHP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
