A Tesla owner in Athens, Georgia, has captured a disturbing incident on camera where a stranger attempted to pour water into the vehicle’s electric charging port. The incident, reported on May 17, is suspected to be linked to opposition against Tesla’s owner, Elon Musk.
The victim’s 2024 Tesla sedan, equipped with motion-activated cameras, recorded the attempted vandalism. The footage shows a white male, approximately 20 years old, thin build, wearing swimming trunks and a pullover sweater, approaching the car. The individual first kicks a water bottle at the vehicle, then unhooks the charging cable, and attempts to pour water from the bottle into the charging port.
Fortunately, the Tesla was not damaged during the incident. This act is part of a larger trend of reported vandalism against Tesla vehicles across the United States, apparently in response to Elon Musk’s role in the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency, which has been associated with federal worker layoffs.
The Athens-Clarke police examined the video footage and identified the suspect as a non-resident of the apartment complex where the incident occurred. Although no damage was done, the officer encouraged the victim to report any similar incidents. The police have not sought warrants at this time.
