Samson Sky Announces Beyond Motors as Primary Electric Motor Supplier for Switchblade Flying Car

PRINEVILLE, Ore., May 29, 2025 – Samson Sky, the manufacturer of the revolutionary Switchblade Flying Car, has announced a significant partnership with Beyond Motors to supply electric motors for the production of its innovative vehicle. The Switchblade made its historic first flight in November 2023, marking a major milestone in aviation technology.

“We’re proud to partner with Beyond Motors,” said Sam Bousfield, CEO of Samson Sky and designer of the Switchblade. “Their e-motors are a perfect fit for our unique hybrid-electric system.” Beyond Motors, a Slovenian company, has extensive experience providing motors for various industries including marine, aviation, automotive, and racing.

The Switchblade Flying Car boasts impressive performance capabilities both on the ground and in the air. It can achieve ground speeds of over 100 mph, reaching 0-60 mph in just over 5 seconds, and cruise at 160 mph in flight. With a range of up to 500 miles on a single tank of premium automotive gasoline, the Switchblade offers unparalleled flexibility for regional travel.

“The Switchblade represents the future of regional travel,” Bousfield explained. “It gives you the option to drive or fly, bypass traffic congestion, and avoid the stress of commercial flights. You can reduce a typical 6-hour commercial flight journey to just 3 hours with the Switchblade, all on your own schedule.”

The Switchblade is designed as a street-legal, hybrid-electric vehicle that seamlessly transitions between driving and flying modes. The process of converting from a car to an aircraft takes less than three minutes, involving the extension of wings and tail. The vehicle is designed to seat two people side-by-side, with additional space for travel bags.

Samson Sky has garnered significant interest in the Switchblade, with over 2,400 reservation holders from more than 50 countries and all 50 US states. The company’s hybrid-electric Skybrid™ system is currently powered by a gas engine that drives generators, supplying power to motors for both ground travel and flight. This design allows for a straightforward upgrade to full electric flight as soon as battery technology advances sufficiently.

It’s worth noting that the Switchblade is classified as an Experimental category aircraft. As such, it doesn’t receive certification from the FAA in the same way that mass-produced aircraft do. Instead, owners are required to build 51% of the vehicle themselves during a one-week session at the Samson Builder Assist Center, after which Samson Sky completes the manufacturing process.
