A tragic accident occurred on Saturday morning when a 65-year-old pickup truck driver lost his life after crashing into the Neuse River on Poole Road in Raleigh. According to the State Highway Patrol, the driver was traveling west on Poole Road when he veered off the road, struck the bridge, and plummeted into the river. Troopers arrived at the scene around 6:50 a.m. and found the driver deceased inside the truck. WRAL News crews reached the location just before 10 a.m., capturing the moment when a tow truck was pulling the severely damaged pickup truck away from the riverbank in a grassy area off Poole Road. The vehicle’s front end sustained significant damage in the crash.
