On January 11, 2024, at approximately 3:56 PM, the Santa Barbara Police Department Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle collision on Stearns Wharf. The incident involved a van that lost control and crashed into numerous vehicles, most of which were parked, and two pedestrians.
The Santa Barbara Police, Fire Department, and Harbor Patrol responded promptly to the scene. The van was located near the end of Stearns Wharf, and the driver was the sole occupant. The collision resulted in damage to 10 vehicles and injuries to two pedestrians, who sustained moderate injuries and were transported to Cottage Hospital for treatment.
Additionally, three occupants from the vehicles struck by the van were taken to Cottage Hospital due to complaints of pain. The driver of the van was interviewed by law enforcement at the scene and later transported to Cottage Hospital for treatment related to a preexisting medical condition.
The cause of the collision is currently under investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the incident was not intentional. No further details about the crash have been released pending the outcome of the investigation.
