Tragic Road Accident in Mandi Claims Five Lives
A devastating road accident occurred early on Sunday morning in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and critically injuring one person. The incident took place on the Kataula Bridge under police station Padhar when a pickup truck carrying tent material from Ludhiana, Punjab, to IIT Mandi in Kamand lost control and crashed into the bridge railing.
The pickup truck, bearing registration number PB02-EG-4543, was transporting six passengers at the time of the accident. Among the deceased were Sukhvinder Singh from Ludhiana, Umesh Kumar and Sagar from Amritsar, and two others whose identities were yet to be confirmed. The driver, Daljeet Singh from Tarn Taran district of Punjab, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Zonal Hospital in Mandi.
According to initial reports, the vehicle lost control while crossing the bridge, leading to the fatal crash. Local residents and emergency responders quickly rushed to the scene to rescue the injured and retrieve the bodies. The police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident, considering factors such as overspeeding or mechanical failure.
Mandi SP Sakshi Verma confirmed that efforts are underway to identify the two unknown victims and notify their families. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed sorrow over the tragic incident, directing the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the families of the deceased and ensure the injured receives proper medical treatment.
The Chief Minister prayed for peace to the departed souls and strength to the grieving families, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. The state government has assured support to those affected by this unfortunate event.
