Shooting Incident in Portage Park Leaves Man Critically Injured
A man is in critical condition after being shot by Chicago police during an altercation early Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. in the 3100 block of North Central Avenue when officers responded to reports of a battery and shots fired at a local business.
Upon arrival, officers were informed by an employee that a man had fired shots and was entering a red pickup truck. When police ordered the suspect to exit the vehicle, he failed to comply and instead accelerated, driving toward the officers and striking one of them. In response, officers fired at the vehicle, and the suspect fled the scene.

The suspect, 28, was later found on the ground outside his vehicle in the 3200 block of North Menard Avenue. He suffered gunshot wounds and received aid from officers before being transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
A gun was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle. The Chicago police’s Investigative Response Team and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability are leading the investigation. As per protocol, the officers involved have been placed on administrative duty for at least 30 days pending the outcome of the investigation.
