A 12-year-old boy from Newark was arrested late Monday following a police pursuit that began in Paramus and continued through several towns, ultimately ending in Clifton. The incident started at approximately 11:07 p.m. when a Paramus police officer observed a red luxury car, reported stolen from East Hanover, driving through the north-end residential areas of Paramus.

The vehicle fled south on Route 17, prompting the officer to initiate a pursuit. The chase continued onto the Garden State Parkway before finally coming to a stop near Pilgrim Drive and Priscilla Street in Clifton. All five occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot, but police from both Paramus and Clifton were able to apprehend three adults and the juvenile. A fifth individual remains at large.

During the arrests, a police sergeant sustained an injury when his foot was allegedly run over by the fleeing vehicle. He was treated and released from Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. The adults, aged between 18 and 24, face serious charges including first-degree crimes such as employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime, second-degree eluding, second-degree receiving stolen property, and aggravated assault.

The 12-year-old boy was charged with second-degree receiving stolen property and was released to his parent at their Newark residence. The adults were processed at Paramus Police Headquarters and subsequently transferred to the Bergen County Jail pending pre-trial hearings.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact the Paramus police at 201-262-3400, extension 1413.
