The Latest Car Technology Is Starting to Drive People Nuts

Door handles used to be simple—now they are another piece of technology that can fail. Drivers are finding they wish the smart technology in their cars was just a bit dumber. Automakers have added new tech features in the 2020s that go beyond the touch screens, assisted-driving systems and companion phone apps that have become ubiquitous in new cars. Some vehicles now come with infrared night vision, seasonal ambient lighting, and interior “fam cams” showing rear passengers.

These advancements have made cars more complex and, in some cases, more frustrating for drivers. The addition of various tech features has raised concerns about reliability and the overall driving experience. While some drivers appreciate these innovations, others feel that they make the vehicle more complicated than necessary.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, manufacturers are faced with the challenge of balancing technological advancement with user-friendly design. The incorporation of features like infrared night vision and interior cameras reflects a broader trend towards creating more sophisticated and connected vehicles.

However, the increasing reliance on technology has also led to instances where drivers feel that certain features are unnecessary or overly complicated. For instance, door handles have become more than just simple mechanical devices; they are now integrated with the vehicle’s technology system, which can sometimes lead to malfunctions.

The debate surrounding the role of technology in modern vehicles is likely to continue as manufacturers strive to meet consumer demands for both innovation and reliability.
