Shaquille O’Neal Gets Honest About Buying Luxury Cars for His Kids
NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has been open about his different parenting approaches for his sons and daughters, particularly when it comes to buying luxury cars. In a recent episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq, O’Neal revealed that his daughters get whatever they want when it comes to vehicles, while his sons are treated differently.
“Girls get whatever they want, boys no,” O’Neal stated bluntly when asked about teaching his kids how to drive and whether they receive new or used cars. O’Neal admitted to spoiling his daughters, Taahirah, Amirah, and Me’arah, much to the understanding of his sons, Myles, Shareef, and Shaqir.
O’Neal explained that he told his sons, “Listen, bro, your sisters gonna get a lot more than you guys get. That’s just the way it is. Women, you got to protect, provide, they just going to get a lot more.” He also set clear boundaries, telling his sons, “When you get 18, 19, 20, get out, stay out. You can come, visit, and do all that.”
However, O’Neal revealed that if his sons wanted to work for him, they would be given a small apartment, but they would have to work extremely hard. This approach contrasts with the leniency shown to his daughters, who are allowed to stay at his house and enjoy more privileges.
The NBA star also has different rules for his children’s personal lives. While his sons can date at 18, his daughters must wait until they’re 24. O’Neal wants his daughters to stay focused and realize they can be happy on their own. He even jokingly said that his daughters can’t bring boys to his house unless they have a master’s degree, claiming he can spot someone taking advantage of them.
O’Neal’s parenting style extends to his children’s financial future as well. He previously revealed that his kids will only have access to his $400 million fortune if they obtain three degrees. “I believe in respectable nepotism,” O’Neal said, explaining that he wants his children to earn their success rather than relying solely on their father’s wealth.
One of his daughters is already a marketing director at Pepsi, showing that O’Neal’s emphasis on education is bearing fruit. By setting these boundaries and encouraging his children to work hard, O’Neal aims to raise responsible and successful individuals.
