A tragic accident occurred on the A442 near Quatt, south of Bridgnorth, on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of a woman in her 90s. The collision, which happened at approximately 3:17 pm, involved a silver Mercedes C220 and a white Ford Transit van.
The victim was a passenger in the Mercedes and was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by emergency services to save her. A passing ambulance crew initially stopped to assist and was later joined by additional emergency responders, including a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford.
The driver of the Mercedes, a man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to New Cross Hospital for treatment. A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving whilst impaired.
West Mercia Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision or who saw either vehicle in the minutes leading up to the crash.
