A tragic incident occurred on Kansas City’s East Side Sunday afternoon when a driver was killed by their own vehicle at a gas station. The accident happened at approximately 1:40 p.m. at the Fast Stop located at 7100 Eastwood Trafficway. According to Capt. Jake Becchina of the Kansas City Police Department, the victim had parked their green Ford F-150 pickup truck in a parking space in front of the convenience store and was refueling when the vehicle began to roll backward. In an attempt to re-enter the moving vehicle on the passenger side, the driver fell and was subsequently run over by the truck. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident marks the 33rd traffic fatality of the year in Kansas City, compared to 48 at the same time last year. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
