Fatal Collision on A442 Near Bridgnorth
A tragic incident occurred on the A442 near Quatt, south of Bridgnorth, on Sunday afternoon when a collision between a silver Mercedes C220 and a white Ford Transit van resulted in the death of a woman in her 90s.
The accident happened at approximately 3:17 pm on June 15. The elderly woman, who was a passenger in the Mercedes, was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by emergency responders to save her.
A passing ambulance crew from the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) chanced upon the crash and immediately provided assistance. They were later joined by additional WMAS personnel, a paramedic officer, and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford. The WMAS spokeswoman reported that bystanders were already administering CPR to the woman when the first ambulance crew arrived. Despite advanced life support efforts, the woman’s life could not be saved.
The driver of the Mercedes, a man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated at the scene and subsequently transported to New Cross Hospital for further medical attention.
West Mercia Police have taken the lead in investigating the incident. A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving while impaired. The police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who may have dashcam footage of the collision or the vehicles involved in the minutes leading up to the crash.
